Groupware Technologies, Inc. (GTI) is an independent software vendor specializing in the design, distribution and support of its proprietary care management software, Provide® Enterprise. Our mission is to help our customers deliver better and more cost effective care to their Clients through the application of process improvements and technology solutions.
President and Owner, Bret Ballinger, founded the company in 1993. The first version of our software was created and deployed in 1995. Since then, GTI has focused its efforts on the continuous improvement of Provide® Enterprise and on building enduring customer relationships.
President and Owner
Bret has more than 25 years of experience in Information Technology and a B.A. degree in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He has spent the past 16 years building Groupware Technologies, Inc. into a successful enterprise. His decision to focus the company’s efforts on care management software has proven to be a winning strategy. His energy and enthusiasm for the company and its products are readily apparent in his interactions with staff as well as with current and prospective customers.
Bret oversees all aspects of the company’s operations. He maintains direct contact with current and prospective customers, hires and supervises all employees, and manages the product development process.
Bret is a hands-on manager who expects and inspires excellence. His strong technical background, his thorough understanding of health and human service operations and extraordinary creativity have made the company’s growth possible. Bret is passionate in his conviction that technology, properly applied, can increase both the quality and the efficiency of care delivery.
Bret has assembled a remarkable team that bring not only exceptional technical skills to bear, but who have specific and collective knowledge of health and human services.

Software Development Team Leader
Dan joined GTI in 1997, and was responsible for reengineering the original, one-off, care management solution developed for the Aids Resource Center of Wisconsin into a market-ready application, Provide® Enterprise.
As the Software Development Team Leader, Dan continues to have responsibility for continual product enhancements, while coordinating and supporting GTI’s Development Staff.
Dan’s easy-going nature, resourcefulness, and depth of knowledge of Provide® Enterprise have been integral to the successful customization and deployment of Provide® Enterprise across a wide spectrum of health and human service settings. Our customers appreciate Dan’s perseverance and his ability to identify practical solutions.
Dan has 20 years of experience in Information Technology, and earned an M.S. degree in Project Management from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Joel Van Kylen
With an M.S. degree in Biophysics from the Medical College of Wisconsin and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University, Joel began his career designing software for specialized X-ray machines.
Joel brings extensive experience in the medical field to GTI, having presented his research and analysis internationally.
Joel utilizes his knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis to advise our customers in planning and implementing program evaluation strategies. He also applies his 20 years of IT experience to the development of cutting edge enhancements to Provide® Enterprise, including his recent work; a function that imports pharmacy records into Provide® Enterprise.
Always thoughtful and solution focused, Joel appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with GTI staff to deliver the highest quality products and services.
Lee has been with GTI since 2001. After working as a programmer in a document management solutions company, he was drawn to the opportunity to work at GTI where he could use his skills to benefit health and human services providers. Lee has worked in the Information Technology field for 13 years.
Lee has been instrumental in the design and development of the Provide® Enterprise platform. He is also responsible for software upgrades and for ensuring the integrity of GTI’s hardware.
Lee concentrates his efforts on quickly resolving hardware or software concerns and takes great pride in maintaining the optimal performance of all systems. A highly effective troubleshooter, he routinely assists the Support Staff when technical questions arise. Lee’s energy, enthusiasm and good-natured spirit are highly regarded by his co-workers and by GTI’s customers.
Lee has a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Support and Training Team
Support and Training Team Leader
Keith joined GTI in 2000. His patient and insightful manner make him a great asset to GTI. Whether responding to a customer’s questions, delivering training, or providing leadership to GTI’s Training and Support Team, Keith easily gains the trust and respect of others. Keith’s dedication to customer satisfaction is evident in all his interactions with Provide® Enterprise users.
While Keith has formal training and work experience in Social Work, he also has an in-depth understanding of the Provide® Enterprise software and its capabilities. Before working at GTI, Keith was a Care Manager and user of the software. He recognizes the challenges associated with providing care management services and has extensive experience identifying software solutions that are practical and effective in addressing these challenges.
Prior to joining GTI, he spent 3 years as a Medical Social Worker and also worked in a Community Mental Health setting for several years.
Keith is licensed by the State of Wisconsin as a Clinical Social Worker and continues to practice part-time. He has Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
